A message from the photographer...
I have been doing photography for over 25 years now and have enjoyed photographing family events, wildlife, sports and of course, all of my pets. In other words, I tend to photograph the things that I love and enjoy. I find wildlife photography to be the most rewarding, because so often we don't take the time to truly enjoy the everyday wildlife that's right around us. I can't say that I would categorize myself as a "tree hugger", but I do believe that we need to think about wildlife a little more than we do and ask whether we really need that new strip mall or housing development. Ask ourselves if maybe our lives would be a little nicer if we kept land the way it is and even encouraged wildlife to flourish in more areas, even if it means that we have to drive just a little further to get to the nearest drug store or convenience store. Even the simplest of open spaces can provide enjoyment if we just look for what is there and think about what it could be.
My sports photography centers around baseball... my first love. Perhaps it's because it's played in the Summer and there is nothing better than a nice, hot, sunny day spent watching a game. Sure, the game has its warts, but it also has its joys and pleasures.
Then, there are the kids. We enjoy the things that they do, but so often we truly miss the moment. We can't catch the expression on their face as they get their first hit in Little League or the emotion on their face as a flyball heads toward them. Or the look of determination on a young dancer's face as she presents her talents in her first recital. That's what I try to capture with my photography.
Whether it's wildlife, sports or children, there is so much there that the naked eye just can't see. Only by freezing that exact moment can we truly enjoy forever the grace, emotion and joy that is there for that brief moment in time.
I hope that you will enjoy the photographs on this site and that you will find them to be something that you would love to have in your home or office to enjoy and savor. Perhaps you would like to capture the emotion on your child's face as they go through their daily activities and interact with family and friends. Maybe you've realized how important it is to capture everyday moments with family and friends, because they can be so rare and because we never know what lies ahead. It's all there, just waiting to be captured. Those fractions of a second that go together to create our lives and to provide us with the joy that deserves to be turned into something more lasting.
Sincerely,
Chuck Hixson
